SannaFest
on July 5th – great success!
On
Saturday July 5th more than 200 kayakers and 100 rafters
gathered at SportCampTirol in Landeck/Tirol.
All
of them came here to celebrate this unique river, and to try to
protect it from destruction by HEP. They came from Austria, Germany,
Czech Republic, England, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, USA,
Chile, Australia and Belgium.
Generous
efforts of SportCampTirol and a few other rafting companies ensured
that (almost) all of these paddlers put in at 15.30h together – the
colourful mass of paddlers of many nations and crafts was impressive.
At a low flow of 25 m³/s
(exactly the amount of water that should be taken out for the
HEP) these 300 white water guys and girls had a happy, relaxed and
fun paddle down to the take out as a moving demonstration and demand
for free flowing rivers.
Down
by the camp people of different interests adressed the crowd –
politicians, tourism industry, locals, enviromentalists from the WWF,
fishermen, and rafters each told the paddlers what they thought about
the HEP. They agreed on what would be lost – huge income in
tourism, biodiversity, recreational value of a country without rivers
– and soon it was clear: except for engineers and politicians,
NOBODY WANTS THIS POWER PLANT!
After
all the information a local band entertained the guests, who enjoyed
the sunshine, cold beer and bbq-chicken, and the really nice and
happy atmosphere among the crowd. And later in the evening all the
paddlers were rewarded for their efforts – thanks to our awesome
and generous sponsors more than 50 prizes were given away, from
straps to a voucher for a brand new kayak!
All
in all the SannaFest was a huge success – we are hoping for the
press coverage in days to come, and that we maybe helped a bit to
SAVE THE SANNA!
